Carbon Pact Challenge is an initiative launched by Maersk Line, the biggest shipowner in the world. The initiative has been set in motion in 2014, and its aim is to mobilise as many business partners of the company as possible in order to reduce CO2 emissions.

\nThe news is crucial, since climatic change is becoming a more pressing concern as time passes. Sea transport plays an important role in the subject; it constitutes for 10% of total CO2 emissions in transport in general. As you might have expected, it is bested by road transport that makes up for 73% of the total, and is close to air transport with 13%.

\nCarbon Pact Challenge helps promoting ecological solutions and transparency for companies whose activity brings about CO2 emissions. So far the project has achieved considerable success, with Agility joining it; the company has agreed to limit emissions by 15% by 2020. The solutions proposed at the moment include limitation of fuel usage levels and optimizing of already-existing transport routes.

\nIt is also worth mentioning that companies such as Maersk Line and Agility already have experience in that kind of initiatives \u2013 both of them are members of Clean Working Group, an international transportation group strongly involved in reducing the damage done to natural environment.

\nAnother important partner of the Maersk company is Tetra Pak, one of the biggest companies that deals in packaging and processing of food. Thanks to its involvement in CPC, Tetra Pak has limited its CO2 emissions by 45% between the years of 2010 and 2020.

\nThat is not all \u2013 both companies have also agreed to provide active support to other solutions, tools and practices that aim at optimizing the process of transport so that it generates less CO2, and committed themselves to promoting the attitude among other companies.
